Canon 5D Mark III announced

After some 3.5 years, the Mark III was finally announced! I wanted to see what was new, but my main interest was that its arrival would drive down the price of the Mark II. I am hoping to get the Mark II in the next 6 months for around $1600. But I may wait for Christmas deals and rebate combos for the maximum discount. The Mark III does not interest me at an MSRP of $3500. I am glad to seem them not jumping into the megapixel race here.

One very interesting nugget that everyone should be interested in, is an update of Canon’s DPP Software:

“New in DPP v3.11 is Digital Lens Optimizer – a revolutionary new tool designed to drastically improve image resolution. Digital Lens Optimizer (DLO) precisely imitates lens performance, with a series of complex mathematical functions replicating each stage of the journey of light through the optical path. Using this information DLO can correct a range of typical optical aberrations and loss of resolution caused by a camera’s low pass filter, by applying an inverse function to each shot to take the image nearer to how the scene appears to the naked eye.”

I don’t know what lenses or bodies it will be compatible with though. One quote that says the initial database has 29 lenses.
