Pedernales Falls – Sept 12

Word of the day was Yellow. Appears to be too early for the fall migrants to show up. Year-round birds were plentiful. The highlight of the day was definitely the Yellow Warbler. What appeared to be a Summer Tanager was also present. A ruby-throated hummingbird was making a nice show too. Mornings are good for them as the sun catches them at a good angle. I looked quickly at the sightings book and didn’t seen anything of interest lately.

There are were no photographer holes in the new blind, but I was told they are still planned. I hope so, as the windows were getting fairly dirty (by photo standards). The blind was sparsely populated with only the usual year-round birds present. A hummingbird feeder has been added.

I walked down to the river to see if it was still flooded, but the flood waters were mostly gone. Still, there was more water than I had ever seen and it was flowing fairly well in places.

Hawks are starting to show up in northern Austin, so the year is definitely coming to a close.

Looking to hit up Brazos Bend SP in the next couple of months.

You need to come over to San Angelo State Park. The windows are clean because i clean them myself. I am the caretaker of the blind here. Yesterday a Wilson’s Warbler and a Black-and-white Warbler showed up. Lots of nice shore and waterbirds. Egrets, Heron, White Ibis, Terns, and beiieve or not, three Roseate Spoonbills have spent 2 weeks here, however I didn’t see them this morning. They may have left. Come on down. :-)
