Pedernales Falls – April 26

Read that there were some new birds at Pedernales so went there for the first time in about 5 weeks. Very cloudy, so most of the photos were shot at ISO 800. Not usually a problem, but for red birds it’s more problematic. New birds I haven’t seen before in bold.

  • Northern Cardinals
  • House Finches
  • Painted Buntings
  • Black-chinned hummingbird
  • Ruby-throated hummingbird
  • Western Scrub-Jay
  • Brown-headed cowbird
  • Black-crested Titmice
  • Spotted Towhee
  • American Goldfinch
  • Lesser Goldfinch
  • Gray Catbird
  • Blue Grosbeak
  • Carolina Bewick’s Wren
  • Dickcissel
  • Rattlesnake (that was exciting!)
  • lots of dove

Missed these before my arrival:

  • Indigo Buntings
  • unknown hawk
  • unknown oriole
  • summer tanager (maybe)

Several people in the blind today coming and going; several out of state/country. I managed to help point out some birds to them. Pictures will be awhile coming. I finished another day of Whistler photos and got halfway through the air show photos. I don’t plan on going to this weekend’s air show in Temple unless the skies are clear. Looking forward to going to the bird blind again when it’s not so cloudy.
