Western Digital MyBook USB

November 5, 2008 Leave a comment Go to comments

Some time ago I purchased a 750GB external drive for backup purposes. It didn’t work out well. The data was constantly being corrupted. I think moving it back and forth between computers for transferring was part of the problem. The other was that when files were deleted, they are ‘marked’ in the computer’s recycle bin. So when you move it to a different computer, it appears to completely mess up the MFT (table of contents). I decided to just take out the hard drive, and put it in my computer. Couldn’t figure out how to open the stupid thing, but came across this: How to Open a Western Digital MyBook USB Drive

Got the drive out and it’s been working fine so far. Next step is to get an internal enclosure so I can easily plug the drive in and take it out. They are cheap, usually running $20 or so. I’m done using a hard drive to transfer data between the computers. I just use wireless now, even if it does take awhile to transfer 8 GB :)
